Teddycoat

When I was about 2 weeks old I was given a teddy bear.  I’m sure I was given plenty of teddy bears but one in particular must have stood out in my little infant mind because I really took to it.  It was white and, at least according to my parents, it was really, really soft.  Twenty-eight years later I still have that bear.  He has survived many tough days including one during which he was set on a stove top and burned “alive.”  After some fir trimming and multiple washings he was salvaged.  Now he’s not so white and not so soft but he’s still my bear.

I know other kids who have grown attached to a blanket, a pacifier or some other object that becomes their security blanket (or security bear, or security other miscellaneousobject).  The most famous of all security blankets has to be that of Linus from the Peanuts.  When challenged about getting too old for his, he simply said he’d make it into a sport coat when he grew up.  Never seemed like that bad of an idea to me…until now.  I’m guessing this is pretty much what it would look like to covert my bear.  Not gonna happen.

Finally, this isn’t really related, but in my search for a clip of Linus & his blanketI ran across this and couldn’t help but laugh.  Enjoy the musical stylings of Linus & the Peanuts singing Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic by The Police.

  1. That is the coolest video! I don’t normally like things that mess w/Peanuts, but for some reason this fits really well. Thanks for sharing it!
