Blessed Beauty Contest

Yeah, so even though I understand the sentiment behind this, I’m still not sure I agree with it.  Apparently an Italian priest is organizing a beauty contest for nuns.  He says he is doing it “to erase a stereotype of them as being old and dour.”  I understand that but I’m still not sure an international vote of who is the best looking nun out there is the best way to communicate that.

Father Rungi stressed that nuns were not being invited to parade in bathing suits (well that is a relief), saying it will be up to them whether they pose with the traditional veil or with their heads uncovered.

“This contest will be a way to show there isn’t just the beauty we see on television but also a more discreet charm,” the priest, who lives near the southern city of Naples, told the Corriere della Sera.
