AFI #31 – The Maltese Falcon

Thanks to everyone for your recommendations from the AFI’s Top 100 movies.  I don’t know that I’ll see them all but I’m going to try to catch up on some of the ones that you’ve suggested.

My friend Johnna suggested the Maltese Falcon and it wasn’t too bad.  If you don’t know anything about it (which I didn’t) it is a mystery/detective movie featuring Humphrey Bogart as Sam Spade.  It seems like it is where are lot of the detective stereotypes came from.  A mystery woman comes into a dark detectives office with a seemly simple assignment.  As the detective gets further and further into things he discovers a deeper, and more dangerous, mystery.

I watched it while doing other things so I may not have gotten the whole Maltese Falcon expereince but I still enjoyed it.  It isn’t the best mystery I’ve ever seen but it was good and it is the foundation of what a lot of detective movies became.  Personally, I’d give it 3 out of 4 thumbs up 😉
