The Traveling Tin

I’m excited to get to church tomorrow.  Obviously, Easter is always a special day at West Side (and every church) but I’m especially looking forward to seeing how many guests we might have.

For the past few weeks our church has been doing something really cool called The Traveling Tins.  We’ve been encouraging our people to both spread generosity around Springfield and to invite people to join us for Easter by giving small gifts to the people they know.  We’ve passed out 750 small tins filled with candy, pens and whatever else people might like to add in (i.e. gift cards, etc).  We also encouraged people to go to www.thetravelingtin.com to tell the story of their tin.  The idea is to see how far each tin with travel and how many people will receive generosity through our church.  It is really cool to look at some of the stories of little kids giving tins to their neighbors and adults giving tins to co-workers and friends.  If you’d like to check out some of the stories you can.  Just click on the Track Your Tin button.   Several have actual made it to 6 or 7 differnet people over the last couple of weeks.

The best thing about all this whole idea is just giving people an excuse to talk to others about our church and invite them to come.  It personally gave me a great chance to take a tin (number 1002 if you want to read the story) over to our neighbors and we ended up talking for 45 minutes (they’re an elderly couple and they always love to chat).  We really hadn’t seen them all winter and I think it was a great way to brighten their day and continue to build a connection.
