I’ve been reading through a one year version of the Bible in the Message translation called Pause, and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve only got about a month and a half to go and I’m excited to make it through.
This morning I was finishing up Proverbs and I came across a few lines that really hit me.
“God, I’m asking for two things
before I die; don’t refuse me—
Banish lies from my lips
and liars from my presence.
Give me enough food to live on,
neither too much nor too little.
If I’m too full, I might get independent,
saying, ‘God? Who needs him?’
If I’m poor, I might steal
and dishonor the name of my God.”
– Proverbs 30:7-9 (MSG, emphasis added)
Lord, let my prayer be Your prayer and my hopes be Your hopes. Keep my eyes not on the things that so easily draw me in (TVs, computers, houses, cars, etc) but on You. Let me look not for a cupboard that is overflowing but only for my daily bread. Let me never be so caught up in living the American dream that I forget who it is that I really need. Help me to learn to trust you with every moment of every day even when I am surrounded by the decadence this society that I have been both blessed, and cursed, to live in.
and you claim you don’t think that deeply 😉 I loved this post…
