Vantage Point

After dinner tonight we saw the new movie Vantage Point.  I was intrigued by the preview.  It is the story of a terrorist plot/presidential assasination but with a twist.  Most of the movie is spent showing the same 25 minutes in time but from the perspectives of eight different people.  Gradually, as you see from the perspective of each character, you begin to put things together.

I enjoyed the movie and I would recommend it (especially since it was fairly clean for an action movie) but I wasn’t quite as impressed with the movie overall as I hoped.  I love the idea of showing different points of view and gradually allowing the audience to put things together, almost like an investigator might do.  It reminds me of Memento, and the way the audience is pulled in and experiences a little bit of what the main character feels.  While it is a great concept and there was some great action and suspense, things were also a little bit predictable and there wasn’t the kind of twist at the end that can really make a movie for me.  Overall, I guess I’d give it about a 7 or a 7.5 out of 10.
