No, this is not a wildly inappropriate post. (I realized it might sound that way after typing the title.) Apparently men are capable of breastfeeding their young. I was going to search for a picture and then thought better of it. Not sure I want to see anything that a Google search for this might bring up. However, my mom sent me this link from Mental Floss and it explains this phenomenon. Not sure I want to be one of these “special” guys. I’ll leave anything like this to my wife but I suppose it is scary nice to know that the possibility is there.

Upside Down Dogs
November 29, 2008Just to prove you can make a blog about anything, let me introduce…

As I’ve said here before, I am not a huge pet guy. This site had some funny pictures though. Plus, I can’t believe there is a site this specific. Next up, a site specifically for amputee spiders and their families.

Poo-Pourri
November 28, 2008MSN recently highlighted 10 Gifts We Don’t Want to Get. I got a kick out of this one.

“Spritz the bowl before you go, and no one else will ever know,” urge the makers of Poo-Pourri, an all-natural essential oil spray for the loo that claims to trap “embarrassing odors.” What’s more embarrassing–a little bathroom odor or having this sitting on the sink?
Plus, you’ve to got to love the great bling that it comes with. Decorate your bottle or give it as a necklace! All for only 24.95.

Thanksgiving Fun
November 28, 2008I hope everyone had a great Thankgiving. We enjoyed even more great food than normal. Melissa and I had three Thanksgiving meals in 24 hours (ok, technically one was for my dad’s birthday but since it was turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and cranberry sauce, I’m including it). The most amazing thing is that I’ve yet to have any leftovers! There are definitely some perks to having most of both of our families in close proximity.

I had intentions of several other fun Thanksgiving related posts but seeing as Thanksgiving is over, feel free to check out these fun links yourself.
- Why We Eat What We Eat on Thankgiving- a fun post about where our Thanksgiving food traditions came from. Surprisingly, they probably didn’t have a lot of our normal Thanksgiving stuff at that first celebration in 1621. They may not even have had turkey!
- Funny Turkey Pictures – I was going to just pick one to highlight but there were several fun so check them out for yourself. There is a link to a turkey shooting game at the bottom. I was ridiculously bad. I’m sure you’ll be better.

Worst Case Scenario: Parenting
November 26, 2008
Some friends of ours from church recently gave us this book and I’ve gotten a kick out of it. I’ve seen other similar books on different topics (college, weddings, golf) and I thought it would mostly be jokes. While there are plenty of tongue-in-cheek moments, it actually offers some pretty good advice about what to do when on a plane and you’re out of diapers (use napkins…and they even provide a diagram), what to do when you don’t have a bottle (use a water gun, drinking straw or baster…though I’m not sure why you’d have a baster and not a bottle) and how to save for college (save money, hold a bake sale, pose as a nude model, groom pets or sell your organs).
In addition to the high quality writing, there were also a few fun illustrations:

Civic Literacy Test
November 25, 2008Yahoo has an article up now about dumb Americans. You wouldn’t think it would still be news but I guess even this is surprising. I guess a bunch of people were given a 33 question, multiple choice test about history, economics and civics. On average people only managed 49% on the test but even worse, people reporting to have served in some capacity as an elected official only managed 44%. On the high end, college educators scored 55%.
One of the questions was “name two countries that were our enemies during World War II.” Thankfully sixty-nine percent of respondents correctly identified Germany and Japan. Among the incorrect answers were Britain, China, Russia, Canada, Mexico and Spain.
If you’re curious you can take the quiz here. It isn’t exactly easy but still 44% on average? I managed 30 of 33 for 90.91%. (Missed 4, 7, 29)

Stand By Me…for Peace
November 25, 2008I came across this cool music video. It was put together by musicians all over the world all singing the same song as a part of documentary film coming out next year. If you’re interested in knowing more about Playing for Change: Peace Through Music, check out their website at www.playingforchange.com.

Mr. Incredible
November 24, 2008Yep… according to many people at our church, I’m Mr. Incredible. And not to be left out I’m married to Mrs. Incredible with baby incredible on the way.

My friend Josh, the IT Director at our church, recently made this along with all of the others below (each of our ministry staff members portrayed as a different superhero). I’m sure he just wanted an excuse to call me Mr. Incredble but they were actually made for the Ministry Staff Apprecaition Breakfast that our support staff put together for us. We try thank them with a lunch every year as well but our plans are always blown out of the water by our awesome support staff. Our church is great!

Treadmobile
November 24, 2008Could this be the most pointless invention ever? I’ve seem some pretty ridiculous stuff before but you’ve got to be kidding me. What exactly is the added benefit of this? If you want to go for a run, try using the ground.
The saddest thing is that, from all I can tell, this isn’t a spoof. Just checkout their website.
