Lord of the Rings Prank

I always get a kick out it when I see places I know in the news.  I like it even more when it is the odd news (when seems to happen more often…not sure what that says about me).  I was in Champaign a few weeks ago visiting family and on the way to my sister’s apartment (she goes to the U of I) we passed this new tower that is being built. 

Recently some students got together for a fun prank.  They were undoubtedly a little dorky because it was a Lord of the Rings themed prank.  They climbed the tower at night and installed a giant eye of Sauron (the bad guy).  Nice.

Vice President Palin?

The vice presidential debates are tonight.  We’ve also got small group and the cubs are playing (Melissa’s a fan) but we’ll probably record it and at least watch some of it later.  It will be interesting to see how Palin does.  I can’t help but think about something from the West Wing, one of my favorite TV series of all time.  In one of the seasons as Martin Sheen is running for re-election they discover a problem.  They are scheduled to debate the republican candidate but they realize that the public impression of the candidate is that he is thought of as so dumb that he had no where to go but up in the debates.

I can’t help but wonder if Palin may be looking at that same scenario.  Whether it is reality or not, she has not come off well lately in the press.  The following clip is a great example.  I don’t watch SNL much but I have loved the recent guest appearances by Tina Fey playing Palin.  Her impression is amazing.
