Germs

May 21, 2008

If you know me, you know that I don’t really believe in germs.  Growing up, I always thought my dad was gross because he’d eat stuff if it fell on the floor, share straws, etc.  Now, I no longer think it is weird.  I’ve been known to eat M&M found in couch cushions and, while I am picky about what I eat (it pretty much has to come from a kids menu), I don’t have many standards when it comes to germs.

Because I’m not too worried about germs, I got a kick out of this recent article about computer keyboards.  Apparently they tested the germs on some keyboards and apparently some of them had up to five times more germs than the office toilet seats!  So as you sit at your computer right now imagine you are typing on a toilet seat.

I can’t imagine how many germs are on your mouse…probably about as many as on a real mouse.

Pitching Tents

May 21, 2008

This is an all time classic youth ministry slip.  Blake, the guy preaching, was actually a student minister at Southeast Christian Church in Parker, CO when he preached this sermon.  He came after I left but I did a summer internship there in 2002.  It is a great church and, from the few chances I’ve had to talk to him, he is a really great guy.  I met him a couple of times at our mega church conference and he always came across and a really personable, authentic guy.

This clip has become a classic in youth ministry and you can see why.  Blake’s reaction is priceless.  I know he’s had a tough time living this down (they showed in front of like 5,000-6,000 people at conference I was at once) but it really is a mistake anyone could make.  Lesson learned though.  If ever teaching a lesson about Lot I’ll avoid language anything like this.
