P.E.T.V.

April 29, 2008

I found a new organization that is right up my alley.  It is my version of P.E.T.A.  This however is the People for the Ethical Treatment of Vegetables.  Why should animals get all of the press?  P.E.T.V.’s motto: If God didn’t want people to eat animals, why did He make them out of meat?

The basis for this organization is a groundbreaking (if somewhat suspect) study done recently discovered that plant actually feel pain when they are hurt or killed.  That means that we’ve got massive atrocities going on every Saturday morning in my neighborhood because the blades of grass are starting to fly.

If you don’t believe the organization’s own claims, maybe you’ll believe our trusty friends the Mythbusters.  In a recent episode of the show they did indeed confirm that plants may feel pain (they put on a little plant torture show to prove it).

I think you salad lovers are just prejudice against meat.  I don’t want to give up my steak and you don’t want to give up your romaine.

World Culture Minute: Oshiyas

April 29, 2008

If this site is anything it is a place to learn more about culture.  For today’s culture highlight, I’d like to point you to a little known Japanese occupation, that of an Oshiya.  Their job is pretty simple.  They cram people onto trains by whatever means necessary.  Just check out the video below.  Those of you who with personal space issues or claustrophobia beware!
