#19 On The Waterfront

April 19, 2008

Since my post about the AFI top 100 movies of all time I’ve been trying to see a few more that I have missed up to this point.  This afternoon I watched On The Waterfront with Marlon Brando and I really enjoyed it.  I wasn’t sure what to expect and honestly, with a name like On The Waterfront, I thought there was a good chance it could be a musical or a romance movie.  Not even close (though I suppose there is some romance).  It is actually all about a dock workers union and social action.  Brando’s character plays a regular guy who has to choose between keeping quiet and making pretty much everyone happy or speaking up and risking his own life and the lives of the people he cares for.  I wouldn’t call it an extremely religious movie but one of the primary people standing up against the crooked union is a local priest and at one point he gives an impassioned speech comparing Christ’s crucifiction with the deaths of every man who was killed by the union.

If you haven’t seen it (and I think most of you haven’t) I’d definitetly recommend it.  Four thumbs up!

The Antichrist is from Canada

April 19, 2008

I am not a big hockey fan and I really don’t have any idea who Carey Price is.  Apparently he is a goaltender who was in his rookie season in the NHL last year.  He plays for the Montreal Canadians and I hear they treat their hockey like a religion up there.  He must be pretty good because the guy who made this video really seems to like him.  I think he may be taking things a little (or A LOT) too far.  I now present to you a video short entitiled, Jesus Price.

Handbell Hero

April 19, 2008

A while back I posted a goofey game that was essentially Guitar Hero but for the Cello.  The game play on that one wasn’t very good.  It was more of an amusement.  I have however found another Guitar Hero kind of game that has pretty good game play (though I’m pretty sure there are probably lots out there at this point).  This one is actually called Handbell Hero.  I tried a few rounds and didn’t do so well but I enjoyed it.  It is setup almost exactly like regular Guitar Hero except it is Christmas time and you are ringing handbells.

Maybe with enough practice I could make our churches handbell team.
